This last weekend I had the opportunity to spend 4 days at Colorado Mountain Man Survival learning the basics of bush craft. It was an amazing experience and highly recommend it for anyone who wants to be more autonomous out in the woods.
Big shout out to owner Jason Marsteiner for the instruction and general entertainment. He made the experience very enjoyable.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michael D.Denver, CO93Feb 10, 2021
Alright everyone, so this school is the best. Jason is very knowledgeable and professional. (He's also a pretty solid dude). I have taken 3 courses with Colorado Mountain Man Survival. The navigation course, the primative bow making course, and the 5 day survival course. All have been very educational and very much worth it. It is knowledge that everyone should know especially if they venture out into the great yonder often. I will one day (hoping for next year) will take the 50 day course. The instructors are always clear in their explanations and if you need more explanation they give you great one on one attention to go further into depth.
The education never stops. Even after the class is over for the day (9-5 typ) you can sit around and discuss more topics, practice more topics, and go into even more depth! The first time I did a friction fire wasn't even during the standard survival course. It was during the navigation course, after class! They take your education very seriously. Colorado Mountain Man Survival truly cares about the knowledge you take home and if you don't understand something, they will make sure you do before you go.
You will make solid friends! Every class has been great for meeting like minded individuals. Every time, I make new friends. It is great to share in conversation around the camp fires (friction fire or not) and discuss the psychological impact of survival or just being out in the wilderness away from the computers, or just talking about hobbies other than wilderness related topics. Everyone has been kind and fun.
Take these courses! It may just save your life one day. Especially after the year we just had (2020)... But don't just take my word for it! Read the other reviews... But I for one, certainly couldn't recommend it more.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Adam S.Littleton, CO426May 17, 2019
I attended a class in early April of 2018 and had a great time. The pace of the class was perfect. It gave us time to learn and practice the skills that we covered. Jason and his crew teach the skills step by step and even take time to walk you through it one on one if you are struggling. Can't wait to take another class.

My experience at Colorado mountain Man Survival was one of the best times of my life! My fiancee and I spent our anniversary there keep in mind she had never even been camping, now she wants to literally spend every anniversary out at a cours. That speaks volumes in and of itself! We took the 5 day standard course and it was amazing! There is so much to learn and do you can choose what things you want to focus on having an extra brain with you allows you to bring home more knowledge! We will be returning for certain as soon as we can! Hopefully we will do the wilderness first responder class next! If you want quality instruction and a great experience this is the place for sure, you will not be disappointed! Sensei Mountain man is a God send!

Due to all the dry weather, the mushrooms were not up. The owner, Jason, was very fair and refunded us all of our money for the Mushroom I.D. course. We hope for more rain next spring and summer and we plan to rebook this course.

My wife and I were both raised in a major city. We started hiking a few years ago and found ourselves enjoying bigger and bigger hikes in remote areas. We realized we needed survival skills in the event things went wrong. Well this is definitely the place to attend. We took the 5 Day Outdoor Survival Class. My wife didn't really want to go. She ended up loving it. We learned much more than we ever expected. Jason was professional, patient, and very detail-oriented. We left the class feeling very confident about our next big adventure into the wilderness. Thanks Jason. We'll be back!

I took the beginner 3 day survival course in Oct. of 2018. Was chilly but we were warmed by a a constant pit fire when we needed a break. Jason really knows his stuff. I have been a long time camper but I really wanted to learn some genuine survival skills and put them to the test. You can do that at the Colorado Mountain Man Survival! He is calm, easy going but has a quiet confidence that is very reassuring when you are learning new things that would literally save your life. After giving instruction and he's sure you got it, he leaves you to it. If you need help, he gives you little hints to help you progress but if you don't then he is only there to give you a smile and a high five! I can say with absolute confidence that if you take his courses, you WILL learn to at least a competent level all the skill and tasks he gives you. I would recommend Jason's courses to absolutely anyone at almost any age and skill level. Can't wait to take my next course!
