In this course we will be establishing a solid foundation of knowledge and skill set needed to get started on your first hunt. We will focus on both modern techniques and primitive skills to create confidence for first time hunters. It will cover everything from the legality and ethics of hunting, scouting, method of take all the way to putting meat in your freezer.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

We will cover all the regulations, navigating parks and wildlife resources. The how, were, what and when. The students will begin to learn how to plan their hunts, needed requirements and apply for licenses. Learn about the methods of take, safe weapon handling and the expected learning curves involved with each type. Students will get a on hands instruction on scouting, navigation, choosing camp sites. We will begin to immerse the students in animal tracking, reading signs and gathering clues to paint a more accurate picture of their hunt.

We will leap frog into getting into the mind of a hunter who has successfully harvested wild game. This will allow the students to envelope themselves completely in the process from tracking blood that morning to cooking later that evening. Students will learn first and foremost safety, needed gear and working with cutting tools. We will go over large game anatomy, field processing and packing out. Small game anatomy, processing and packing out. All the way to butchering, long term storage and of course cooking. Giving the students the opportunity to experience the full circle of life, respect for creation and provision of a hunter’s hard work.

Students will to dive head first into the remaining skill set of the hunter. From learning wild game behavior, moving in their habitat, scent control and thermals. Helping the students to both pursue and close in the distance on wild game. Basic calling, stalking and other hunting strategies. Then lastly touching base on important primitive skills and gear that will give confidence to the students that they are self-sufficient in the case it is needed deep in the wilderness.
