NAVIGATION

Here we teach you way to navigate in the wilderness with both primitive and modern methods.

Navigation and orienteering skills are some of the most important skills that we can bring into the backcountry. Being able to read a map and head off-trail in search of game, fishing spots, swimming holes or awesome vistas will open up a new world of backcountry travel and you’ll be able to see the world that exists off marked trails and away from tourist areas. An experienced outdoorsman or guide is able to look at a map and plan routes of safe and fun travel. Once you’ve finished our Navigation classes you’ll be able to look at a topographical map and understand the terrain it defines, know how to navigate through terrain identification and compass use, how to stay found and what to do to find your position on the map if you become disoriented.
