USING THE SUN AS A COMPASS

Its very easy to get turned around in the wilderness and sometimes hard to determine direction, especially mid summer when the sun is high in the sky.

In this video I show you a simple way to make a primitive compass using some basic bushcraft survival skills and the shadows that the sun casts. This is a very simple survival tool and can be very useful to determine direction. I always recommend that you have a map and a compass when venturing out but often times that just doesn't happen.

You can also use your fingers to determine how many hours of sunlight are left in the day. If you are lost or even out too far and wont make it to your final destination in time, you may need to hunker down for the night. You 'want to be setting up camp in the dark so give yourself enough time before the sun drops below the horizon. This video shows you how to do that.
