Description
Basic Rappelling and Rope Skills Course
The TSU Tactical Training Group Mountain Series begins with a focused, hands on introduction to rappelling and rope skills for civilians who want to safely operate around vertical and near vertical terrain. This is not a technical climbing course. It is a practical rope safety and movement course designed for outdoor enthusiasts who want confidence and competence on steep ground.
This 2 day course introduces students to the principles of safe rappelling, rope management, and movement on fixed lines. Whether you spend time hiking in mountainous terrain, exploring rocky environments, or navigating exposed terrain, this course provides real world rope skills that apply immediately in the field.
Students learn the core safety principles that govern rope operations, including hazard assessment, redundancy concepts, communication, and risk management around vertical terrain. Instruction includes proper rope management, gear management, and essential knots used in field environments.
You will learn how to select and build anchors appropriate for natural terrain, establish fixed ropes for ascending near vertical ground, and perform hasty rappelling on steep terrain. The course also covers vertical rappelling techniques and belay techniques to safely manage yourself and others on rope systems.
All equipment is provided by TSU. Students are required to bring long pants, sturdy boots, sunglasses, and sufficient water for the training day.
Class size is intentionally limited to ensure proper supervision, skill development, and hands on repetition. Students can expect direct instruction, practical application, and structured progression over the two training days.
If you are looking for a civilian focused introduction to rappelling and rope skills in a mountain environment, this course delivers a strong foundation without unnecessary complexity or technical climbing systems.
