Description
The 5 C’s Survival Kit – Core Survival Gear for Emergency & Wilderness Preparedness
This minimalist survival kit is built around the proven 5 C’s of survival: Cutting, Combustion, Container, Cover, and Cordage. These are the foundational tools every outdoor adventurer, prepper, or survival student should carry when heading into the wilderness.
Our classes don’t require a ton of gear to succeed, but you’ll need reliable basics to practice real skills. This is a bare-bones survival kit designed to keep you alive in an overnight emergency situation with the proper training. It’s lightweight, compact, and rugged—ideal for field training, hiking, or as a go-to emergency pack.
What’s Included in the 5 C’s Survival Kit:
Cutting Tool – Mora Garberg Knife with Sheath
The Mora Garberg Carbon Steel knife is a bushcraft favorite. Durable, sharp, and versatile, it’s widely respected in the survival community. This version comes with a solid black leather sheath and is built for field use—perfect for carving, notching, food prep, or fire-making tasks.
Combustion – 6″ Bayite Ferro Rod
A reliable fire starter capable of thousands of strikes. The large size gives you better grip and control, even in wet or cold conditions. An essential part of any survival fire kit.
Container – 40oz Klein Kanteen Stainless Steel Water Bottle
Made from 90% post-consumer recycled 18/8 stainless steel, this wide-mouth, single-wall container allows you to boil water directly over a flame. Compatible with most water filters and designed for rugged backcountry use.
Cover – Rain Poncho & Mylar Blanket
The 6.8′ x 5′ poly-coated poncho is waterproof, tear-resistant, and doubles as a tarp, bivvy sack, or ground cover. The emergency Mylar blanket enhances heat retention and, when used together, can create a fast emergency shelter.
Cordage – 100 ft. of Paracord
Versatile, strong, and endlessly useful. Make gill nets, snares, lashing for shelters, emergency repairs, bracelets, or traps. With proper training, you can do more with paracord than most people can with a backpack full of gear.
Premium Knife Upgrade Option
While the standard kit includes the reliable Mora Garberg, you now have the option to upgrade to our exclusive TSU Spirit Knife—designed by our team, forged for performance, and only available through The Survival University.
Upgrade your kit for just $80 and replace the Mora Garberg with the TSU Spirit Knife, a tool trusted by our instructors and handcrafted to meet the demands of true fieldwork.
To choose this upgrade, simply select the “Knife Upgrade” option during checkout.

Product Detail & Shipping Notice
We’re damn proud of this survival kit—every item in it has been tested, used, and trusted by our instructors in real-world conditions. This isn’t some cookie-cutter bundle thrown together by a warehouse team that’s never left the city. This is gear that works, hand-picked by people who live it.
That said, The Survival University isn’t Amazon. We don’t have a fulfillment center or a fleet of workers. What we do have is one guy: Jason Marsteiner—owner, lead instructor, and the one who packs and ships every kit by hand… when he’s not out in the mountains teaching people how not to die in the wild.
So if your kit doesn’t ship the same day you order it, just know it’s probably because Jason’s out doing something way cooler than sitting at a desk—like building a shelter in the snow or tracking wildlife in the backcountry.
He’ll get it to you as fast as humanly possible. Might be a few days. Might be a week. Just be patient—it’s worth it.
Want it faster? Come train with us and pick it up in person.
