Private Family Outdoor Skills Course

This private 3 day outdoor skills course is reserved specifically for Mark Jackson and his group of two fathers and three sons ages 12 to 14. The training is modeled after our 3 Day Outdoor Survival Basics program and tailored to support family groups preparing for longer unguided backpacking trips.

The focus of this course is building confidence, situational awareness, and practical outdoor skills in a hands on environment. Instruction is paced for both adults and teens and emphasizes decision making, teamwork, and self reliance in real outdoor conditions.

Training will take place on over 5000 acres of private land near Cripple Creek, Colorado. Your group will train in a dedicated area separate from public classes. While complete isolation cannot be guaranteed, terrain and space will not be limiting factors.

• Outdoor awareness and risk assessment
• Shelter building with simple materials
• Fire starting with modern and basic methods
• Water location and purification
• Knife safety and basic tool use
• Navigation fundamentals for backcountry travel
• Group movement, communication, and leadership
• Managing stress and problem solving outdoors

This is a field based course with minimal lecture. Skills are practiced repeatedly so both adults and youth leave with real experience they can apply on future trips.
