What You’ll Learn in Two Days

This is hands-on field training. You will be outside building, working, and applying these skills in real conditions.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Plan safer outings and build a practical survival kit
  • Stay aware, avoid getting lost, and make decisions under stress
  • Use knives and basic survival tools safely
  • Start and maintain fires with modern tools
  • Choose a shelter site and build emergency protection
  • Find water and make it safe with boiling, filters, and tablets
  • Tie useful knots and work with tarps and cordage
  • Signal for help and practice wildlife awareness

This two day course starts with the foundations. Short demonstrations lead into guided practice, followed by a simple team scenario that brings the skills together. Beginners and participating families are welcome.

Class Schedule

Check in at 9:00 AM on the first day. Class starts at 10:00 AM on day one and 9:00 AM on day two. Training ends at 5:00 PM each day. All times are Mountain Time.

Bring your own meals and personal equipment. Enrolled students may stay on the training property during the course with their own shelter and sleeping gear, or arrange lodging nearby. View the full course details and equipment list.

WHO THIS TRAINING IS FOR

What's Your Reason?

Everyone shows up for different reasons.

This training is for you if:

  • You want real, hands-on outdoor skills you can actually use
  • You’ve never taken a course before and want a solid starting point
  • You spend time outdoors and want to be more prepared
  • You want to build confidence and make better decisions under pressure
  • You’re looking for practical skills, not theory or classroom lectures

This is NOT for you if:

  • You’re looking for a relaxed, sit-back-and-watch type of class
  • You don’t want to be outside working, building, and learning by doing
  • You expect everything to be easy or comfortable
  • You’re not willing to be challenged mentally and physically
  • You’re looking for shortcuts instead of learning the skill

For people who want real skills, not just talk about them.

BUILD CONFIDENCE WHEN THINGS DON’T GO AS PLANNED

HANDS-ON FIELD TRAINING FOCUSED ON AWARENESS, DECISION MAKING, AND SKILLS YOU CAN RELY ON WHEN CONDITIONS ARE UNCERTAIN

Learn Skills You Can Actually Use

From fire and shelter to water and navigation, you’ll build practical skills that apply in the backcountry and in everyday situations. This isn’t theory. You’ll do the work and see how it actually plays out.

Train in Real Conditions

You’ll be outside working with real materials, real terrain, and real variables. This is where you learn what works, what doesn’t, and how to adjust when things don’t go as planned.

Develop Awareness and Judgment

We focus on helping you read your environment, stay aware of what’s happening around you, and make better decisions before small problems become bigger ones.

BUILT FROM REAL EXPERIENCE, NOT THEORY

You’re not learning from slides or lectures. Everything in this course comes from time spent in the field, where decisions matter and mistakes have consequences. That experience shapes how we teach and what we focus on.

We don’t just show you what to do. We put you in situations where you have to think, adapt, and figure things out with guidance along the way. That’s how skills actually stick.

You’ll leave with more than information. You’ll leave with experience, confidence, and a clear understanding of how to handle yourself when things don’t go as planned.

WHAT YOU'LL WALK AWAY WITH

Real Confidence in the Field

You won’t just understand the concepts. You’ll have done the work, made decisions, and seen what actually works when conditions aren’t ideal.

Skills You Can Rely On

You’ll leave with practical skills you can use immediately, whether you’re in the backcountry or dealing with unexpected situations closer to home.
