Food Sovereignty

An essential skill for the health of our homes and communities

Healthy food is love and an exchange of energy and life force. Food brings people together. Working hard to harvest food for the nourishment of self, family and friends is fundamental to our human experience.

One of the greatest feelings of independence is food sovereignty. Whether you cultivate a garden, are a beekeeper, hunter or forager, having the skills to bring food to the table is a necessity to the sharing of our generational wisdom.

Thanks to Jason Nauert (Jason the Butcher) who teaches courses at The Survival University campus, I was given 4 days of invaluable training that resulted in 40 pounds of goat meat in my freezer.

What a great experience!

This was my first animal processing experience in which I dispatched, skinned, gutted, hung and butchered by myself from start to finish in a private Austere Cooking class. Of course I had plenty of guidance from Jason who is a master at his trade. I joined a group of military men (Chef’s), who were working side by side to process and experience austere cooking. It was a beautiful week of connection and joy.

Austere Cooking

I am so grateful for Jason Marsteiner for bringing me on board as a partnering organization with Wildkind Academy as well as Ruben Rodriguez Jr. who assisted the process and helped us cook a whole goat over the fire and trained us on sharpening our knives.

These are stellar men who welcome the feminine into outdoor leadership. Thank you with all my heart.

My dear friend Wild Mountain Man Dana made a goat stew with some of the meat I brought home to share with the Wildkind community at this weekend’s MasterClass that I taught in Washington. Full-Circle and Amazing ♥️

Coming to Washington

We are working to bring Jason the Butcher to Washington State in 2023. Subscribe to the Wildkind Academy newsletter for events local to Washington and for course updates and continue to check out The Survival University for events in Colorado and in Washington.

Jess, the owner and founder of Wildkind Academy completed our 50 Day Instructor Training Program in July of 2022 and is partnering up with TSU to bring you training and classes with her in Colorado and in Washing State.

Check out the 9 DAY COLORADO WILDERNESS IMMERSION & SKILLS TRAINING class Jess Caldwell and Jason Marsteiner will be teaching together in August of 2023!
